| Some time ago, I received an email from the Great White North, regarding a cool Thunderbird project. Needless to say, it was a great email that led to some amazing exchanges of ideas, and soon, pen was hitting paper in a frenzied race to keep up with Kevin, the owner's mind... We bounced a number of ideas, themes, and possible routes for the car around, with the needle landing squarely in Coolsville. I wanted the car to reflect Kevin's hip nature (he's a talented DJ, and lays down some killer mixes... did I mention that?), and really play up the car's fantastic design. I've been a fan of the "bullet birds", as the body style is known, for as long as I can recall, and, along with the early Rivieras, it's a great factory custom to start with. But, being who I am, I had to add a little personalization to the mix... Kevin and I decided that extending the rear quarters ever-so-slightly made a long, sleek design even better, and in doing so, it gave the tail lights a great tunnelled look, and just seemed natural. We re-shaped the rear bumper just a bit, and created new, lower fins to balance the added length, and to emphasize the new low stance. A very simple shave, some creative tucking and nipping, and the addition of a mild, early-sixties style scallop paint scheme further set the tone. A set of early-style mags walk the line between performance car and cruiser. The overall theme here was to be timeless, and let the car's lines speak for themselves, and we think we've nailed it. As you read this, Kevin is hard at work on the car, replacing floorboards, and ironing out some wrinkles, and doing a damn fine job of it. It's his first project, and to say that he's going at it like a pro is an understatement. We'll share updated photos as the project progresses, and think that you'll agree that this is going to be one incredible car when completed! |
